This Process Drama resource is an activity aimed at Upper Primary students.
It is a dramatic storytelling activity whereby the students design the focus and determine the issues explored in the drama. The teacher acts as a facilitator. The games are designed to delve into the world of the book and the adventures of the dog with his umbrella. However, the games also allow students to explore social issues such as making friends, bullying, inclusion and conflict resolution. Through using 'The Umbrella' as a stimulus for dramatic storytelling, it is hoped that all participants, both teachers and students, enjoy their improvisations and have fun whilst working together to solve some very real and existent problems that students experience. The Process Drama uses the wordless picture book, 'The Umbrella' as a stimulus for the experience. 'The Umbrella' is a beautiful picture book which sees a dog and a cat find an umbrella in the middle of a wind storm. When the dog opens up the umbrella, he is taken off with the wind on an adventure to various unknown places around the world. He experiences new animals, places and at times is not welcome in his new surroundings. The dog travels across land and sea to finally return home to a very jealous cat! |
